The founder, Walter J. Pink himself was an avid civil rights activist and intellectual. Before becoming a college professor at the age of 28, Mr. Pink was a heavy-weight boxer whose ring name was "the tobasco kid" because his fist would carry the heat to knock out even the most formidable heavyweights. While fighting heavyweights in the ring, Mr. Pink would study, and through his studies, he understood that the fight to secure his future, and the future of his people, is beyond the ring. This decision led him to become a teacher, as he considered teachers to be the soldiers at the front lines of the future with their ability to teach, and protect the minds of the next generation. As a college professor, Mr. Pink believed that being an educator was a great occupation to fight for the future, however, life pointed him in a different direction. As a teacher, one of his students was arrested on false charges. Later that same year, his wife, Betty Pink, was refused and harassed by a hair salon for the color of her skin. When people he cared about were in legal trouble he felt powerless as a professor, so he decided to pick up the gloves of freedom and justice and became an attorney. Mr. Pink took his fire for fighting and brought it into the legal realm. For over 30 years, Mr. Pink dedicated his talents and tenacity to the legal ring treating each case, each client, and each person as a fight that he must win. In his career, Mr. Pink handled over 20,000 criminal cases, over 600 criminal trials, and was even recognized by the Texas Senate for his many legal battles. Even though Mr. Pink’s existence on this plane of living has ceased, his sons Augustin Pink and Clement Pink as well as his grandson Ishmael G. A. Pink continue his fight.
